How to P Standing Up - just some playful liberation

The steps below are no-brainer. Every woman that I know have done this. But I know that with practice, women can stand tall, and point their pee.

Steps:

1. Position yourself over the toilet seat, back to the wall, and facing the door, lift your skirt, and pull down your underwear.

2. Start to sit, but just stand in that position.

3. Relax your body, and allow yourself to urinate fully into the toilet bowl.

4. Use the toilet paper on the wall, and wipe yourself.

5. Pull up your panties, pull your skirt down.

6. Flush and wash your hands.

*Practice and practice! It is easiest when you are in the shower. Expirement with how far to separate your legs, how much to separate your labia and pull upwards, how much to bend your knees.

*Practice starting and ending your urine stream at full force for less spraying.

*Many bathrooms are dirty, which makes it necessary not to want to sit on the toilet seat. Standing up therefore, is the only way for a woman to urinate.

Why are we interested about urinating standing up?

Besides of the obvious advantages of speedy procedure, of the no-touch factor with public toilets, of being able to keep your pants on....

Well a lot of the men folks in my family are public urinators. And god damn it! I never accepted the fact that I was a girl back then, and I still feel like I could do what ever they can.

Men pee unabashedly in public on the streets. I shuddered last time when the guy standing next to me at the 16th Street Bart just flipped it out and started urinating. Disgusting. I know a lot of guys are more polite/clean/shy/and well mannered than the type of guys that I'm writing about here, and I don't mean to make a gross generalization... But I just never encountered a woman peeing in the public standing. If I ever do, she will be my HERO!

Why do guys feel like they could do that? Why do us women folks engage in less public peeing? I feel like this is just another territory to explore... just some playful liberation, that's all.

Don't get me wrong... I don't encourage urban public peeing... because that stuff just really stinks.. I don't care if it's good for plants, or if it's 'natural', there's enough disgusting things going through our body that makes pee toxic. and it stinks!

However, I think it's simply, just another skill. If you gotta go..... I guess...

And, there's a number of products you can buy. I don't recommend it. I don't like touching piss. I don't like the idea of touching instruments that touched piss.. well, unless if you're into it... then here are the products.

Bad PoM #1

This is what I do on a Sunday afternoon sitting in Nomad Cafe, trying desperately to write the next sentence on my thesis... I'm writing a poM instead, too serious to be silly, too silly to be anything else.

.

The bounded bodies of theatre of oppressed.
.
If the city is a theatre and we are actors performing a very insincere act of life,
then what is the definition of freedom? Truth?
.
Is our element.
.
We wait for moments when we can step out of our elements.
We wait for moments when we can repay a thousand thanks to our allies.

Thinking about the short words that you drop.
And thinking about the things that ail your heart.
I should listen more,
but instead I write.
.
.
The selfish act of self-discovery
Is not reserved for the privileged,
The wealthy
The artists
The music makers
The careless
.
But for whoever desire free will.
.
not me, I'm sticking to my script!

Another Thurseday

http://www.floragrubb.com/index.php
My classmates Kate Lydon and Anton Willis are going to be giving a talk today at Flora Grubb. This is about their dreamy project about lunar sensored lights. It's from 7-9pm at 3rd and Bay View.

I think tonight is the last night for this free, open air movie. 'The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly"
At Delores Park. 6.15pm.

Impromptu theatre. At UC Berkeley, and in different parts in Berkeley.

I first found out about this when I was in NYC. Someone had described his encounter with the guerilla actors... (I'm not sure how to spell guerilla in this case... Ian, I'm sure you know..)
He was at an intersection, and noticed these 'actors' on different sides of the streets. He noticed that they were actors because different ones of them would call out, yell out, what not. Very short performances, and they had just departed into separate ways.

Interesting. Anyway, the Bay Area is hosting them too... along with other places in the nation.

A good book to acompany this is Games for Actors and Non-Actors. http://improvencyclopedia.org/references//Games_for_Actors_and_Non-actors.html. They are games to be played by the 'Theatre of the Opressed." Lovely. My Baltimore gang would know that we had participated in a few of the games at gas stations.. Thanks to Mike Smith and David Nishizaki.

wow, it's sooo gooood! good in a bad way, of course. He had just played three of my good ol favorites in a row. Really, I can't disown the fact that I'm from Baltimore. I don't think anybody really can. We all agree that it's a BAAAAAAd place. Even the ones who are still there. But it's really nice that this connection is felt by people like David Byrne. John Waters.

I guess he was driving cross country with his daughter last month. From New York City to LA. I wonder if my mother and I had ever passed him some where in Ohio Turnpike, going the other way.

Po-M

An idea for Modern Dissidence. Attack like you are playing.
Like Yoko Ono's instructional Po-Ms.
A way to remake the city, bit by bit.
Dreaming.
Anti-naming.
Scavenger hunts.
With playing cards.
Regionalism to the micro scale.
Distractions.
Path.
Searches.
Teri Rueb's mode of collaboration is interesting... She would get another artist to make parts of her project. An armature for her salt ball, a railing for her steel sound tube. It's kind of weird. Very hierarchical. Teri's idea/project, -> hire architects/artists to complete parts. It's distinct in the end product which parts were hers and which were the other artists. This can be successful if she micro-manages. This is also an issue of control...
Open authorship.

Bovine Devine

If you believe in Freud, then everybody in your dream is a symbol of yourself. Drawing is kind of like tapping into your subconscious. So I was kind of surprised about what came out in this one. There's a trio. The strong hero, the loved, and the lonely.

Life of a monk.

-Angry Little Girls.

Kate Millet (b.1934), she is one austere woman. You wouldn't think so, because she's so crazy - moving to Japan with only a few bucks, and staying there for 6 years, protesting, getting arrested, affairs with crazy Japanese artists, like Fumio Yoshimura, protesting Marijuana enforcements at a University lectures. She is a woman of the 60s.

She is as heavy as a boulder, unmoveable, and disciplined. She could have been a cult figure if she was more affluent with pop culture. But she was more about the beatniks - CC-'counter-cultural'.

She regimented her life in Japan. I'm sure she viewed her life as a kind of monastic training. 6 hours of reading, 6 hours of making art, 6 hours of work, 6 hours of eat, sleep, drink and play.
Kate Millet wrote a bunch of books. Most of her writings are hard for me to read, but every word is infused with power.
Sexual Politics - 1970
The Politics of Cruelty - 1994
Mother Millet-2002
One of her artworks was a series of manekin doll legs mounted beside urinals. A commentary on Vietnam War. The correlation between women's body as drainage is a powerful metaphor.
Another writer, David L. Pike used the same metaphor in his article "Sewage Treatments: Vertical Space and Waste in nineteenth-Century Paris and London". Pike compared the stratical social hierarchy of each culture to the city's vertical strata. The powerful elite were associated with the Penthouse, whereas the prostitutes were associated with the sewage that ran beneath the city. Peculiar, because prostitutes don't actually live in sewage systems, but they were linked with the city's drainage system.
I can't really relate to this metaphor of a woman's body. For one thing, it's too simplistic of a model. The article is well done, inspirational, powerful, fluid, but can't buy into it.
Times have changed and we are in a mobile, transient span. It's the new millennium baby. In our modern age, we are not interested in forced regiments, in identity, in authenticity. Rather, fluidity, anxiety, instantaneous gratification, Chinese women with British accents, craigslist, and DIY everything rules the time. Let's steal everything.
Why am I visiting Kate Millet's work? It is regressive?

There is still something very romantic about this hero culture, that had passed. But more than that, it's kind of like a herritage at this point. I am idolizing her free spirit, yet unmoving will. I am part of the camp, of those who are sick of this current culture. I would rather act dumb than to be confrontational - in the new millineum, unlike the 60s, people went to work. And that's what we do at work, we play dumb. We don't have emotions... I'd rather be trouble sometimes.
